Women's Soccer Outscored 0-2 in Loss to Bonnies

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - The Golden Grizzlies were unable to find the back of the net in their match on Sunday, falling 0-2 to St. Bonaventure on the road as they close out their non-conference slate of games for the season.
The first half started with a strong defensive effort from Oakland, highlighted by a pair of early saves by Maryn Weiger. Despite Oakland's defensive resilience, Giovanna Coghetto broke the deadlock for St. Bonaventure in the 9th minute, giving the Bonnies a 1-0 lead.
Oakland's Bailey Giddings attempted to even the score with a shot in the 38th minute, but it was saved by Jael Schubert, leaving Oakland trailing 1-0 at the end of the half.
After the first 45 minutes, the Golden Grizzlies only accumulated two less shots than their opponent, including a pair of corner kicks as they were still seeing positive plays happen on the pitch.
The second half began with Oakland applying more offensive pressure as Kimee Liu attempted a shot just four minutes in. Isabella Bierod and Corinne Jenkins also continued to attack, putting shots towards the Bonnies' net, but St. Bonaventure responded with a dagger in the 77th minute, capitalizing on a corner kick to extend their lead to 2-0.
Oakland continued to press, with Bella Haynes, Marina Downing, and Mallory Anderson each registering more shots in the second half. The Golden Grizzlies had a handful of other deep runs into Bonnies' territory, but just weren't able to find the back of the net.
Maryn Weiger recorded three saves over 90 minutes, facing eight shots in goal. Bailey Giddings led the midfield with two shots, including one on goal. Kimee Liu attempted three shots, placing one on target. Isabella Bierod contributed in the attack with one shot on goal as well.
The next challenge for Oakland is a trip to Highland Heights, Ky., where they will face Northern Kentucky University on Sept. 18 at 5 p.m as they begin Horizon League play.
