Gohlke and High-Flying Offense Leads Golden Grizzlies Past Jaguars, 107-59

ROCHESTER, Mich. - Jack Gohlke tied his career-high in points with 31 as nine Golden Grizzlies recorded points as Oakland defeated IUPUI, 107-59, this afternoon inside the OU Credit Union O'rena.

The Golden Grizzlies (18-10, 13-4 HL) saw Gohlke sink 10 threes (10-of-15) which is good for t-2nd in the Golden Grizzlies record book for most threes in a game. With the win, the Golden Grizzlies locked up a home game in the quarterfinals of the Horizon League Tournament due up on March 7. Isaiah Jones led the Golden Grizzlies and the game off the glass as he brought down eight, as a total of four Oakland players were in the double figures in points.

The Jaguars (6-22, 2-15 HL) were led by DJ Jackson as the sole Jaguar with double-digit points with his 17, all off the bench.

The Jaguars opened the game up with back-to-back threes, with a Jones jumper sandwiched in between, as those were the only set of points IUPUI scored in the opening 6:38 of play. In that span, the Golden Grizzlies grew its lead to five before the Jaguars got another point. IUPUI grabbed a pair of free throws but the Golden Grizzlies proceeded on a 12-0 run, highlighted by a four-point play from Gohlke and back-to-back makes from range, courtesy of Osei Price and Gohlke.

The Jaguars grabbed a quick two, but it was Gohlke and Price who made their shots from deep, followed by back-to-back slams from Trey Townsend which made the O'rena erupt. The Golden Grizzlies grabbed a commanding lead, up 39-15, with just over six minutes to play in the first half. A set of makes from the charity stripe eased the Jaguars deficit a bit, but Oakland kept its foot on the gas and continued to grow its lead.

Rocket Watts drilled one from deep, followed by a Chris Conway jumper and a DQ Cole slam as all of the momentum was on the Golden Grizzlies side. IUPUI grabbed a three, but Gohlke snagged his fifth three of the game to answer. The Jaguars went on to score four more points before the horn sounded, but it was all Oakland in the opening 20 as it led, 51-24.

Gohlke led the game after the first 20 with 16 points off his five makes from range. The Golden Grizzlies shot well in the first half as it was 18-of-31 (.581) from the floor and sank eight from downtown. The Jaguars, on the other hand, struggled from the floor as it only made eight (.276) as half of its makes came from range. Oakland also led off the glass in the opening frame with a seven-rebound advantage, 21-14.

The Golden Grizzlies started things off in the second half with 11-straight points as Townsend stole one down low on the defensive end and found a streaking Jones who slammed one home. Cole capped off the 11-0 run with a make from range as Oakland extended its lead to 38 points early in the half. Townsend helped the Golden Grizzlies put its lead to 40 points, at 68-28 with a pair of makes from the charity stripe.

The Oakland train kept on going as the team kept up its 40-point pace throughout and smothered the Jaguars in hope of a miraculous comeback. It was all Gohlke in the second half as he was on fire from range and continued to pile on the Jaguars. Gohlke made five from downtown in the second half which included a catch-and-shoot fadeaway three, followed by another from deep to tie his career-high with 31 points and becoming t-2nd in the Oakland record book for most made threes in a game with 10.

The second half went in favor of Oakland as it didn't let up and went on to score 56 points. The ball was well spread as Michael Rogers got in off the bench and tallied a handful of points as the offense was flying high with alley-oops and dunks as Oakland seemed to be clicking on all cylinders. It was a full team effort as nine players got in on the action and contributed for the Golden Grizzlies.

The Golden Grizzlies continued to be lights out in the second half as it shot 19-of-25 from the floor (.760) to finish at a .661 clip. Oakland sank 15 from beyond the arc, and was 7-of-11 (.636) from range in the final 20. The Jaguars improved from the floor in the second half as it went 13-of-31 (.419) but only made one shot from range. Off the glass, Oakland held the edge as it brought down 37 total boards, while the Jaguars snagged 25.
