GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Golden Grizzlies cross country teams earned a pair of top-three finishes, with the women's team placing second and the men's team finishing third, this afternoon at the Horizon League Championships hosted by Green Bay.
In the men's 8K, Oakland secured third place with 86 points, led by standout
Yami Albrecht. Albrecht delivered a stellar performance, finishing in ninth place overall with a time of 24:40.1, narrowly missing a top-eight finish and setting the tone for Oakland's strong pack.
Wesley Hollowell and
Michael Hancock followed closely, placing 12th and 13th with times of 24:53.5 and 24:56.8, respectively, showcasing the depth and consistency that kept the Golden Grizzlies in the podium hunt.
Tristan Brandenburg crossed the line in 21st place at 25:21.7, adding critical points to the team total, while
Logan Detweiler rounded out the scoring five in 35th place, finishing in 25:56.8. The Golden Grizzlies also saw solid contributions from
Carter McCalister (47th, 26:12.2) and
Collin Farmer (51st, 26:19.0), with all runners competing to solidify Oakland's position against the top talent in the league.
On the women's side, the Golden Grizzlies captured second place with a total of 74 points, led by
Erin Hegarty's impressive fourth-place finish. Hegarty clocked in at 21:31.1, pushing the pace and keeping Oakland competitive with a top-five placement. Close behind her,
Grace Nolan secured a spot in the top 10, finishing seventh in 21:40.1, strengthening the team's podium chances.
Haileigh Bissett crossed the line in 15th place with a time of 22:15.8, followed by
Hannah Fisher (23rd, 22:56.6) and
Brooke Aho (25th, 23:04.6), whose strong finishes solidified Oakland's runner-up finish.
Genavieve Kushner-Lopez (30th, 23:12.8) and
Sarah-Rose Sullivan (35th, 23:26.3) rounded out the team's top seven, each contributing to a consistent and competitive pack performance.
Furthermore, both Hegarty and Nolan were named First Team All-League, while Albrecht, Hancock and Hollowell earned Second Team All-League.
