Men's Soccer Aims to Secure Second Straight Regular Season Title in Final Two Games

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Golden Grizzlies men's soccer team is one step closer to securing their second consecutive regular season conference title as they close out the season with a pair of high stakes matches to close the regular season.

Oakland is in the midst of a three-game winning streak after beating Robert Morris 3-2 at home to snatch sole possession of first place in the Horizon League.

Carson Ballagh impressed in their latest win with two assists, including one to Jayden Pinheiro for the game-winning goal in the 64th minute.

Zach Townsend also scored for the second straight game, elevating his offensive play in this recent strong surge of play, while Abdul Al-Rashed also scored for the second straight game, and third goal in the last five games, as he now tallies a team-high four goals on the season.

FRIDAY, NOV. 1 vs. GREEN BAY | 1 PM

The Golden Grizzlies prepare for a long-awaited rematch with the Phoenix, who return to Rochester for the first time since beating Oakland 1-0 in the 2023 Horizon League Championship Game.

This game is one with huge playoff implications. With a win and an RMU tie or loss to Detroit Mercy, Oakland can clinch the regular season title and No. 1 seed in the Horizon LEague Championship.

For Green Bay, a win and a RMU loss could give them possession of first place and break their tie with the Colonials for second place.

In conference play the Phoenix are one of the top scoring teams, scoring 12 goals thus far in league play, anchored by Chirs Album's league-leading five conference goals, but Oakland has only allowed nine goals against Horizon League opponents, second lowest in the conference.

TUESDAY, NOV. 5 @ DETROIT MERCY | 7 PM

Oakland closes their regular season out with a rivalry match that regardless of the standings, will be a hard fought bout against the Titans.

Oakland has not lost to Detroit since 2010, holding a 7-0-3 record in their last ten meetings, including a 2-0 regular season clinching finale win in 2023.

Detroit Mercy is in the sixth and final spot for the Horizon League Championship standings coming into the week, but a lot of movement in the standings could change their position.

Before hosting Oakland,  they take on second-place Robert Morris on Nov. 1.
