GREEN BAY, Wis. — The Golden Grizzlies secured a comeback victory with two second-half goals to defeat Green Bay by a score of 2-1 at Aldo Santaga Stadium.
Tim Allos tallied both of Oakland's goals, including a game-winner in the 85th minute, as he notched his first career multi-goal performance.
The first half began with both teams establishing their presence on the field. Oakland's goalkeeper,
Cole Thompson, was active early, making a crucial save against a shot from Keegan Walker in the 11th minute. Despite a steady defensive effort, Oakland found themselves behind 0-1 when Walker scored in the 28th minute.
The Golden Grizzlies responded with increased offensive pressure, earning multiple corner kicks and crafting opportunities in the opening half, including a shot by
Gabriel Baylon that was saved, and two attempts from
Andriy Bilous that narrowly missed. The half concluded with the Phoenix maintaining a 1-0 lead, while Oakland looked to build on their offensive momentum going into the second half.
The second half would see a shift in the Golden Grizzlies' favor, beginning with an equalizer from Allos in the 80th minute poking through an unsecured save by Green Bay's keeper, leveling the score at 1-1 with a hustle play. Just minutes later, Allos struck again with a back heel touch goal, assisted by
Julian Kanzler, putting Oakland ahead 2-1, giving them the win.
Allos' dagger goal was his second career game-winner. He also joins Christopher Jean-Léger as the only Golden Grizzlies with multiple goal games this season.
Oakland battled back by outshooting the Phoenix eight to six in the second half, putting six of those second-half efforts on goal compared to just two by Green Bay.
Allos scored both goals for Oakland, finishing with two shots on goal and securing the game-winning goal. With these goals, Allos now leads the team with four goals on the season. Kanzler added an assist, contributing to the team's offensive efforts, while Baylon also put out a pair of shots. In goal, Thompson recorded four saves, allowing only one goal in the match.
After securing their first win, Oakland quickly pivots for a home match against Butler University on October 7. The match is set for a 7 p.m. kickoff at Oakland Soccer Field in Rochester, Mich.
