Women's Soccer Lines Up For Big Week of Games with Postseason Implications

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Golden Grizzlies begin their final four game stretch of the season as they play a pair of postseason determining games as they host Northern Kentucky in a weekday match, and close the week out with the first of back-to-back road games as they face Cleveland State on Sunday.

Oakland is aiming for a big end of season playoff push after back-to-back losses, most recently a 0-3 loss to Wright State on Oct. 13.

Right now the Golden Grizzlies sit in eighth place, just outside the final Horizon League Championship spot. A win on Thursday could launch Oakland back into that sixth spot, setting up a crucial final three games of the season.

THURSDAY, OCT. 17 VS NORTHERN KY. | 5 PM

The Golden Grizzlies face off against the third place Norse, who sit with just one conference loss thus far (4-1-1). They are currently riding a five game unbeaten streak, including two-straight wins, taking out Purdue Fort Wayne 1-0 (Oct. 10) and IU Indy 2-1 (Oct. 13).

A stout defensive team, NKU has allowed the second fewest goals (21) of any Horizon League team.

Even as the Norse streak through the season, Oakland has a historical advantage, holding a 7-4-3 all-time record against NKU (3-2-1 at home). With the teams playing to a 1-1 draw in their last meeting in September of 2023, thanks to an 87th minute game-saving goal by Frankie Mudd, Oakland has gone five straight matchups without a loss to the Norse, and haven't lost on home soil since 2019.

SUNDAY, OCT. 20 @ CLEVELAND STATE | 1 PM

In another matchup that has favored the Golden Grizzlies over time, Oakland will hit the road for the first of a two-game road stint to take on the Vikings.

Oakland is 6-4-4 all-time against Cleveland State, having won three straight head-to-head matchups including a 1-0 win last season.

The Vikings are not having the season they would have hoped for, still being winless coming into the week with a 0-13-1 record (0-7 HL). In the midst of a nine game losing streak, the Vikings are looking for any sense of positivity to close out the season.
