HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky.- The Oakland volleyball team's three-match win streak came to an end after a 28-26, 25-18, 25-18 loss at Northern Kentucky on Saturday night at Regents Hall.
The Golden Grizzlies (10-8, 4-2 HL) entered Saturday's match coming off a big win over preseason favorite, Wright State, 3-1 but they couldn't carry Friday's momentum into the match.
Libby Gentile had a team-high eight kills and hit .278 on the day.
Anika Prisby had seven kills, and
Ainsley Guse chipped in six of her own hitting at a .400 clip to lead Oakland. Gentile and Guse also added two blocks each.
Northern Kentucky (9-7, 4-1 HL) outhit Oakland .264 to .106. The Norse had the edge in kills (43-32), aces (6-2) and digs (45-42).
Sarah Turner had 16 assists and nine digs, while
Rachel Rossman tallied 13 assists and four digs.
Emily Wichmann continued to pace the Oakland defense, recording a team-best 17 digs.
Abby Kanakry had 10 kills on .304 hitting to lead the Norse.
Oakland returns to the OU Credit Union O'rena Friday, Oct. 6 against Milwaukee at 6 p.m. for Dig for a Cure / Healthcare Worker Appreciation sponsored by The Pino Agency. Friday's game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
