Oakland (2-4-3) looks to bounce back after a 1-1 draw against Purdue Fort Wayne Sunday. The Golden Grizzlies found themselves down 1-0 just 20 minutes into the game after an own goal as Oakland inadvertently headed the ball in the net in an attempt to clear it.
For the second-straight game, graduate student
Macey Wierenga converted on a penalty kick, tying the game at 1-1 in the 76th minute. The Caledonia, Mich. native's goal marks her third of the season, a team-best.
Oakland leads the all-time series against the Norse 7-4-2, including wins in the last three meetings. The Golden Grizzlies defeated NKU 1-0 a season ago from the Oakland Soccer Field.
The Golden Grizzlies will continue Horizon League play on the road Sunday, Sept. 24 at 1 p.m. against Cleveland State.
SCOUTING THE NORSE
Northern Kentucky (3-2-4) enters Thursday's match with only one loss in its last eight games. The Norse are looking for their first Horizon League win, starting the conference slate 0-1-1.
Most recently, NKU recorded just its second loss of the season on the road against YSU, falling 2-1. Despite trailing 2-0 in the second half, NKU's
Lydia Self converted her penalty kick chance in the 56th-minute to make it a 2-1 contest. It was the first goal of the season for the junior and the seventh of her NKU career.
The Norse have allowed a Horizon-League best seven goals all season, holding their opponents scoreless in seven games. Nine members of the NKU squad have tallied a goal this season led by freshman Kylie Anderson with three.
