Women's Soccer Drops Home Opener to Falcons

ROCHESTER, Mich. - Oakland fell to Bowling Green with a final score of 1-0 on Thursday evening at the Oakland Soccer Field.

The first period began with Oakland's Norah Schmidt making key saves to keep the Falcons at bay. Schmidt stopped a shot by Ella Kane in the 12th minute, maintaining a strong defensive stance early in the game. Despite opportunities, including a shot by Mallory Anderson in the 27th minute, Oakland was unable to find the back of the net.

BGSU capitalized on its chance, breaking through in the 33rd minute with a goal by Taylor Green. This goal allowed the Falcons to take a 1-0 lead into the break, with Oakland trailing but poised to adjust in the upcoming period.

The second period began with Oakland looking to shift momentum but was met with a resilient Falcons defense. Both teams held tight in their back lines, allowing few real chances to materialize on either side.

Oakland's goalkeeper, Schmidt, delivered crucial saves in the closing minutes, denying attempts from Lizzie Bultynck and Audrey Oliver to keep the score tight. Isabella Bierod's provided Oakland with a chance to equalize late with a shot on goal at the 83rd minute, but it fell into the hands of BGSU's O'Malley. The match concluded with BGSU maintaining its 1-0 lead for the win.

Schmidt recorded four saves, facing 15 shots for the Golden Grizzlies. Bierod and Anderson provided Oakland with their only two shots of the match.

Looking ahead, Oakland will take a week-long break before facing the University of Toledo on Thursday, Aug. 27, at 2:30 p.m. ET back at home.
