Oakland defeated by Wichita State in Sunday series finale

WICHITA, Kan. – The rubber match of a three-game set, the Wichita State Shockers topped the Oakland Golden Grizzlies, 16-2, on Sunday, March 5 at Eck Stadium.

Completing a 10-game swing away from home to begin their 2023 campaign, the Golden Grizzlies are now 2-8, while the American Athletic Conference's (AAC) Shockers improve to 6-4.

Falling to 0-2 on the season, senior left-hander Travis Densmore was saddled with the loss for Oakland, allowing six runs (five earned) on six hits over two innings with a walk and a strikeout.

Junior right-hander Brandon Decker worked the third through the fifth and senior Noah Stants and fellow juniors Jake Matthadiess and Ben Paugh rounded out the day.

Striking out nine over seven innings, junior right-hander Grant Adler, a Wichita native, picked up the win and moved to 3-0. Classmate Caden Favors and freshman Nate Snead each threw an inning to finish the game.

Tallying three hits, scoring twice and driving in two, junior shortstop David Herring paced the Shocker attack, while center fielder Kyte McDonald, second baseman Brock Rodden and left fielder Seth Stroh, all fellow juniors, collected two hits apiece.

His second multi-hit game of the year, senior left fielder Ian Cleary recorded two of the Golden Grizzlies' six knocks, with graduate student first baseman Gabe Lux, redshirt senior shortstop Thomas Green and sophomore third baseman Brandon Nigh and redshirt freshman pinch-hitter Kevin Krill registering the others.

Green homered for the third time in the last four games with a solo shot in the seventh and Krill, Lux and Nigh each tallied a double.
