ANN ARBOR, Mich. – For the second-straight season, the Oakland Golden Grizzlies traveled to Ray Fisher Stadium and left with a victory over the Wolverines, topping Michigan, 4-1, on Wednesday, March 8.
Having played every one of their contests away from home, Oakland improves to 3-8, while Wednesday was the 2023 home opener for Michigan, who falls to 4-8.
His third start of the year, redshirt senior right-hander
Bryce Konitzer was terrific for the Golden Grizzlies, working a season-high five shutout innings and allowing just two hits while walking one and striking out six.
Graduate student lefty
Christian Stelling handled the sixth and seventh and senior
Noah Stants and junior
Brandon Decker, both righties, took care of the last six outs.
Manning left field Wednesday with freshman
Reggie Bussey playing center, redshirt sophomore
Drew Collins led Oakland at the dish, going 2-3 and starting the scoring by plating redshirt senior third baseman
Luke Malmanger with a triple in the second inning.
Collins would score on this play himself on an error to give the Golden Grizzlies a 2-0 lead and they upped to it 3-0 in the third when graduate student first baseman
Gabe Lux scored on a double to center field off the bat of senior right fielder
Ian Cleary.
Extending the margin to 4-0, Collins knocked in his second run of the day in the ninth and the Wolverines tallied their only run in their final turn at-bat when senior left fielder Tito Flores, a Brother Rice Warriors graduate, homered.
