Madison, Wisc. - Oakland joined the field of nearly 30 other teams as they set out for the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Meet.
The men's team set a historic pace in their 10K race, finishing 14th overall. This mark is Oakland's third highest finish at the meet since the university went from Division I to Division II. The team's only higher finishes came in 2015 and 2017 where they placed 11th in both years. Oakland's lead runner was a name used to being at the front of the pack,
Yami Albrecht. The graduate student finished 35th with a time of 30:32 as he was the first Oakland runner to cross the finish line. Fellow Horizon League All-League first team member
Colin Kane was next to cross the finish line, lacing 63rd with a time of 31:08.6. Rounding out the rest of the Golden Grizzlies in the top 100 were
Adam Hill (118) and
Josiah Magley (94).Â
The women's team finished 20th overall at the morning-time 6K meet, with top runner Horizon League All-League First-Team runner
Grace Nolan finishing 80th overall with a time of 21:56.9. Nolan was followed by
Erin Hegarty who finished 114th, clocking in at 22:28.6. Oakland had two runners place in the 120s, as
Makenna Scott (120) and
Jennifer Ohlsson (129) filed in next. Rounding out the top five Golden Grizzlies was Second Team All-League runner
Maryam Sheena, crossing the line in 143rd place.Â
Oakland awaits the NCAA Selection Show on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 5 p.m. to see if any of the programs runners will be invited to the NCAA Division I Championship Meet.
