ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Oakland women's soccer team will host Robert Morris in its Kick Away Cancer game Thursday, Oct. 5 at 3 p.m. at the Grizz Dome on campus.
**Due to potential inclement weather, Thursday's game has been moved from 5:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. and will be played indoors at the Grizz Dome on campus. Thursday's game will no longer be broadcast on ESPN+. Admission will be free and fans are encouraged to bring their own chair.
Michigan Ovarian Cancer Alliance is a non-profit that is focused on promoting the early detection of ovarian cancer and improved treatment outcomes. The Golden Grizzlies (3-5-4, 1-1-2 HL) look to bounce back after falling to Wright State, 1-0 last time out.
Goalkeeper
Julia Zangerl ranks sixth in the Horizon League in shutouts per game with three and sits seventh in goals against average (1.498). The freshman averages 3.22 saves per game, good for 10
th among Horizon League foes.
Macey Wierenga has paced the Oakland offense this season tallying a team-best three goals. The graduate student and Caledonia, Mich. native has also added an assist on the year.
Frankie Mudd has added two goals of her own on the year while
Anuhea Aluli,
Jayna Fraser, Allie Tefend and
Melaina Troy round out the goal scorers for Oakland with one apiece.
SCOUTING THE COLONIALS
The two squads have met just three times in the all-time series with Oakland earning wins in all three meetings. The Golden Grizzlies have tallied 11 goals in those three meetings while holding RMU scoreless. In the first-ever match in March of 2021 after RMU joined the Horizon League, Oakland defeated the Colonials 5-0, marking the (then) first time since the 2017 season the Golden Grizzlies have scored five goals in a game after defeating Chicago State 5-0.
Robert Morris (9-2-2, 3-2 HL) enters Thursday's game on a two-game win streak, most recently a 2-1 win over Detroit Mercy.
The Colonials boast eight goal scorers on the year including four in the top-10 among the Horizon League in Malia Kearns (7), Lidia Nduka (7), Renae Mohrbacher (6) and Taylor Day (3).
