Box Score Rochester, Mich. - Women's Soccer began their weekend with a 90-minute, grind-it-out game against Horizon League Leading Milwaukee.
The Golden Grizzlies fought the entire game, keeping up and matching the physicality of the Panthers.
While their defense was stout, Oakland only had a handful of good-looking scoring opportunities. Their best chance coming in the 49', where Early in the half Graduate Student Macy Wierenga fired a close shot at the goal. Wierenga's shot was saved, but the rebound was redirected to sophomore
Shannon Brown who followed up with a shot of her own that was also saved.Â
The Golden Grizzlies gained the edge in possession towards the end of the match, but still to no avail.
"We felt like we had to neutralize their attack, so I'm proud of our team being able to do that today. This point is very valuable for us because everything is so tight in the league," said Oakland Head Coach
Juan Pablo Favero. "We would have loved the win, but we'll take the point and I'm proud of our team's discipline and performance."
Oakland Goalkeeper
Julia Zangerl has continued her special freshman year in goal, holding Oakland's last two opponents to shutouts.
This game was a special one despite any result, as Oakland congratulated their senior players, who so strongly lead this hard-working team.
Hannah Russell,
Macey Wierenga,
Jayna Fraser,
Izzy Karkaba,
Allie Tefend, and
Trystan Thompson-Cotterell were the seniors who were honored after the game.
Oakland heads to Titan Field on Wednesday, Oct. 25 to take on in-state rival Detroit Mercy for their final regular season game.
