OAKLAND SETS NEW PROGRAM RECORD WITH VICTORY OVER NORTHERN KENTUCKY

The Golden Grizzlies' 29 wins are the most in a season since the program began competing at the NCAA Division I level in 1998

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Kent. – Extending their win streak to three games and improving to 29-24 (18-10 Horizon League), the Oakland Golden Grizzlies won a slugfest with the Northern Kentucky Norse, 14-12, on Friday, May 20.

This 29th win is a new program record for the Golden Grizzlies since they began play at the NCAA Division I level in 1998, besting the 2000 team's mark of 28 wins.

Rundown of Friday's action
Collecting a team-high four RBI, freshman third baseman Brandon Nigh went 3-for-4 in his second contest back after an 18-game absence due to a lower-body injury. Three of these runs driven in came on a home run to give Oakland a first-inning lead, tying him with graduate student second baseman Brad Goulet for the club lead in home runs with seven.

Racking up a game-best four hits in five at-bats, sophomore catcher Brandon Heidal raised his average to .285, scored twice, drove in three, and stole a pair of bases.

Junior designated hitter Ian Cleary went deep for the first time since March 26, a two-run opposite field shot in the second, and senior first baseman Gabe Lux also finished with two RBI.

Pitching 3.2 innings out of the bullpen, fan favorite freshman right-hander Hunter Pidek earned his fourth win, allowing three runs on six hits with a trio of strikeouts.

Making his first relief appearance of the season, redshirt senior righty Jacob Wosinski handled the final five outs for his first save.

Kyle Klingenbeck, a junior right-hander, took the loss for Northern Kentucky, dropping him to 3-7. A native of nearby Cincinnati, Ohio, he went 4.1 innings, giving up eight runs on eight hits with five walks and seven strikeouts.
