OAKLAND BEATS WRIGHT STATE IN FIRST HORIZON LEAGUE SERIES

DAYTON, OH - Oakland was downed in game one of Sunday's doubleheader but came back in the final game to take down the reigning Horizon League champions 2-1 for the series.

This marks the first time in program history that Oakland has won a series against Wright State and the first time since 2013 that Wright State has lost a home series.

In the final game, Oakland received contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, helping the Golden Grizzlies put six runs on the board and knock off the Wright State Raiders 6-5.

GAME 1
Freshman Brandon Nigh notched two extra base hits, but the Oakland Golden Grizzlies fell to the Wright State Raiders 14-2 in game one. Nigh's two extra base hits were the highlight of a 2-for-2 game, and included a double, a home run, two walks and two RBIs. Luke Malmanger also put together a noteworthy performance at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a double.

Sophomore Chas Sagedahl (1-3) got the ball to start for Oakland (5-11, 1-1) and took the loss.

GAME 2
Jacob Wosinski (2-2) got the win for Oakland (6-11, 2-1). The right-hander went 5.1 innings, giving up three runs, all of them earned, on five hits, allowing one walk and striking out four.

Thomas Green led the way offensively for the Golden Grizzlies, going 2-for-3 in the ballgame with a triple, a walk and an RBI.  Brenton Phillips furnished a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Ian Cleary also helped out, going 2-for-3 for Oakland with a double, a walk and an RBI.

The Golden Grizzlies got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the top of the first inning. Brad Goulet came across to score the lone run of the inning for Oakland and get them on the board.

The Golden Grizzlies then held the Raiders scoreless before expanding their lead in the third inning. Oakland scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Cleary, which brought the score to 2-0 in favor of the Golden Grizzlies.

Oakland held Wright State without a run before expanding their lead to 4-0 the following inning. The Golden Grizzlies scored two runs in the frame, punctuated with an RBI triple off the bat of Green.

The Raiders gained ground, closing the gap to 4-2 until Oakland added some insurance in the fifth. The Golden Grizzlies pushed two runs across on a two-run double off the bat of Phillips that brought home Nigh and Cleary, bringing the Oakland advantage to 6-2. Wright State put three runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Golden Grizzlies still held on for the 6-5 win.
