INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI Jaguars swept the season series against Oakland as the Golden Grizzlies fell short, 64-56 Friday night from the Jungle.
Kahlaijah Dean led Oakland in scoring, recording 13 points on 3-9 shooting, and a perfect 7-7 from the line.
Breanne Beatty added 12 for the Golden Grizzlies, rounding out the double-digit performers on 5-9 from the floor and adding five boards.
The first quarter was a back and forth battle that saw six lead changes and despite Oakland's eight turnovers, the Golden Grizzlies only trailed by one, 19-18 after the first 10 minutes. OU went an impressive 8-11 (73 percent) shooting in the first quarter and out rebounded the Jaguars 7-3.
Kayla Luchenbach scored the last four points for Oakland to end the half to pull Oakland within one.
Both sides had a similar second quarter each going 5-14 from the floor at a 36 percent clip and a combined 1-9 from 3-point range. IUPUI had the 32-28 advantage heading into halftime.
The Jaguars ended the third quarter on a 9-0 run, holding Oakland to just seven points and 2-13 from the floor.
Oakland pushed back in the fourth quarter, outscoring IUPUI, 21-16 holding the Jaguars to 3-13 shooting, good for just 23 percent. In the span of a little over eight minutes, the Golden Grizzlies went on a 14-6 run, but were never able to pull ahead of IUPUI (15-5, 12-3 HL).
Breanna Perry added nine points in just six minutes of play before a first half injury cut the redshirt senior's night short.
Luchenbach tallied six points for OU and team-best six boards.
Brianna Breedy recorded five points and dished out a game-high six assists on the night.
Oakland (10-10, 8-5 HL) returns to action Sunday, Feb. 6 against UIC at 2 p.m. (ET)
