ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Oakland women's basketball team ended a three-game skid Saturday afternoon after taking down Purdue Fort Wayne 58-54 on senior day from the O'rena.
The Golden Grizzlies celebrated and started all five seniors in
Kahlaijah Dean,
Brianna Breedy,
Kayla Luchenbach and Breanne Perry. Oakland also recognized graduate assistant and former student-athlete
Victoria Oglesby.
Beatty (14), Dean (13) and Folley (12) led the Golden Grizzlies in double-digit performances.
Dean recorded her first double-double on the year, added 10 rebounds to her 13 points. The senior went 5-13 shooting.
Beatty went 5 of 10 from the floor, 4 of 6 from long-range adding seven rebounds on the day.
Folley went an impressive 56 percent from the field, dishing out five assists.
The Mastodons jumped out to a 15-9 lead after the first quarter ended on a 5-0 PFW run. The 'Dons held Oakland scoreless for the last 4:14 of the opening quarter.
The Golden Grizzlies battled to cut the deficit to just four points at the half, trailing 29-25.
Oakland came out blazing in the third quarter, taking the lead for the first time. The Golden Grizzlies put together a 20-3 run over 6:45 to the quarter.
The momentum swung back to the Mastodon's favor after a 9-3 run to get back within two, 54-52. Oakland was able to keep the lead and take the game in a season sweep over the 'Dons (9-18, 7-12 HL).
Oakland (12-13, 10-8 HL) will close out the regular season at Northern Kentucky Thursday, Feb. 24 and Saturday at Wright State for a 2 p.m. tip.
