OAKLAND TUNED TO FRIDAY NIGHT'S ESPN2 CLASH

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Oakland University Men's Basketball and Wright State will meet on ESPN2 in Horizon League action on Friday, February 18 at 9:00 p.m. in the Athletics Center O'rena. The "Voice of the Golden Grizzlies" Neal Ruhl will be on the call at TheBet 1270 AM (WXYT-AM) and on the Audacy App.

Series Note: OU is 1-9 against WSU in last ten meetings

The Raiders are 0-2 coming into Friday night with two-straight losses coming against Milwaukee and Northern Kentucky. The Golden Grizzlies' and WSU's previous meeting on February 5 resulted in a 75-64 loss for Oakland inside the Nutter Center. OU is 1-9 against Wright State in the last ten meetings after going 5-1 in six games before that stretch.

Tanner Holden leads Wright State with 19.9 points per game while Grant Basile captures 8.7 boards per game, respectively. Basile has also tallied 43 blocks to this point in the season, first in the conference. Holden is third in the Horizon League in scoring and second in rebounding, behind Jamal Cain in both categories. 

Scott Nagy has his team currently fourth in the Horizon League standings with a 12-6 league and 15-12 overall record. In six seasons at Wright State, Nagy is 124-61. 

Cain was named Nike #HLMBB Player of the Week for the fourth time this season after setting a career-high 32 points in the win over Detroit Mercy following a 29-point performance against Robert Morris last week. Cain is second in the Horizon League in scoring at 20.5 points per game as the Pontiac native has 13 double doubles this season, tied for eighth-most in the NCAA. 

With 197 assists this year, Jalen Moore is second in the nation in assists per game with 8.4. Moore is coming off two-straight ten-plus assist showings against UDM and RMU last week. Moore is also second on the team in scoring with 15.0 points per game along with a team-high 49 steals. 

Trey Townsend is second in the league in FG% at 54.2% (154-284) while dropping to third on the team in scoring at 14.8 points per contest. Townsend is looking to capitalize off a four-point, nine rebound game against the Titans after the freshman had 18 points against Robert Morris.

Oakland is sixth in the NCAA in free throw percentage at 79.38% (408-514) through the 26 games played. OU also leads the Horizon League in scoring margin at 7.7, averaging 75.9 points as a team per game. 

The Golden Grizzlies are 3-2 in Friday games this year with losses to Alabama and Northern Kentucky while coming off a Friday night win against Robert Morris. OU is 1-6 in its last seven nationally televised games dating back to 2019-20. The last regular season Horizon League televised game for Oakland was against Wright State as well, a 96-69 loss at the O'rena on ESPNU. 

Oakland stayed steady in the latest NCAA NET Rankings at 129th. The Golden Grizzlies are up to 77th ahead of the likes of Virginia Tech, South Carolina, and Virginia after Sunday's home win over Detroit Mercy.

Oakland is 18th in the latest Mid Major Top 25 Poll by College Insider. Down from 16th. 

The Golden Grizzlies are now 139th in kenpom.com rankings playing the 8th toughest out of conference schedule in the nation.

NOTES

NUNN BETTER
Oakland University Men's Basketball alum, Kendrick Nunn, will be honored during halftime of Friday's game. Nunn was runner-up for 2019-20 NBA Rookie of the Year with the Miami Heat as NBA All-Rookie First Team. On August of 2021, Nunn signed with the Los Angeles Lakers where he currently plays.

Once again, Jamal Cain sees himself in the mix of national attention with the grad student from Pontiac in more than one category.

ONE THE BEST IN THE NATION
Moore is second in the NCAA in assists per game at 8.4 with a total of 197. Moore is just shy of Yuri Collins of Saint Louis in first. Moore was the 2020-21 national leader in assists per game. 

MID-MAJOR BASKETBALL'S SEXIEST COACH?
Yes, really. According to SB Nation's Mid Major Madness, Oakland Head Men's Basketball Coach, Greg Kampe, earned 35% of the staff's and fan's vote on the website published on February 14. Kampe is ahead of the only other Horizon League coach named on the list, Will Ryan of Green Bay, by eight spots. 

WEAR THE COLORS
Oakland is 7-1 when wearing white during the season with the most recent win coming against Detroit Mercy as the only loss in that uniform set coming in neutral site action against Michigan State at Little Caesars Arena. When wearing gold, the team is 5-1 with the lone loss coming to Northern Kentucky. 

PRICE + LAMPMAN FROM DEEP
Osei Price is shooting 43.6% (24-55) while Lampman shoots 35.7% (51-143) with the most attempts. These two are the team's scoring leaders off the bench with 4.5 and 7.1 points per game, respectively. Oakland has one of the longest three-point scoring streaks in the NCAA at 1,059 games. 

MINISTER OF DEFENSE
Micah Parrish has 36 takeaways with seven blocks total on the year from the Detroit native with an average of 6.3 rebounds and 11.0 point per game, respectively. Parrish finished with 17 points in the Metro Series win with six rebounds and two steals. 

MID-MAJOR SUCCESS
Oakland dropped to 18th in College Insider's Mid Major poll from 16th in the February 14th edition.

A career-high 32 points by Cain led the way for Oakland as the team rallied from a 15 point deficit in the first half of the Metro Series to win by 16 in the final box score. Cain also collected his 13th double double of the season as Moore tallied 11 assists. 

(at) Robert Morris, February 11, W, 71-68
Cain finished with 29 points in the win over Robert Morris while Moore dished 10 assists as the team took the victory on the road to retake second-place in the Horizon League, securing the squad's 10th conference win. 

(at) Youngstown State, February 9, L, 78-71 
Oakland dropped its third-straight Horizon League game at the Beeghly Center with Cain grabbing his twelfth double double of the year, leading the team with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Moore was just behind with 19 points and nine assists. 

(at) Wright State, February 5, L, 75-64
The Golden Grizzlies dropped their second-straight Horizon League contest in back-to-back days as Cain recorded his eleventh double double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds. OU is now 9-3 in Horizon League play.

PRICE IS "MR. PERFECT"
According to Stats by STAT, Osie Price's 7-7 FG, 5-5 3PT, and 8-8 FT stat line from Oakland's game against University of Michigan-Dearborn makes him the only person in the last 20 years in the NBA, WNBA, NCAA Division I, II, and III to finish 100% from the field with at least five attempts in each category. 

1000 POINT CLUB
Cain tallied his 1,000th point in his collegiate career with his 26 scored in the win over UIC on Saturday, January 29. Cain's thousand points carry over from his time at Marquette University as the grad transfer finishes his collegiate playing career at Oakland,.

A SPECIAL FRIDAY NIGHT
Chris Conway's previous career high in points was two points ahead of OU's game with Ohio Christian. The Naperville, Illinois native earned his first career double double with 22 points and ten rebounds as Trey Townsend got his second double double of the year with 26 points (a career high) and 10 rebounds as well. Emmanuel Newsome made his first start of the season Friday as well tallying eight points, five rebounds, and a steal.

BATTLE IN LITTLE CAESARS ARENA
Moore tallied a double-double in the team's 90-78 loss to Michigan State University with 25 points and 11 assists to his name as Cain notched his second straight contest with 20 or more points, his sixth overall of the season. The squad shot 43.9% (25-57) from the field as the team faces its first, and albeit short, losing streak of the season at two games. 

FUN IN THE SUN
Oakland secured the Gulf Coast Showcase title with wins over Vermont, Rice, and Delaware. All three of OU's victories were decided by eight points or less. The tournament took place at Hertz Arena in Estero, Fla. and featured eight mid-major teams. The winner of the MTE has advanced to postseason play in six of its eight years of existence.

UPSET IN STILLWATER
The Golden Grizzlies earned a 56-55 victory at Oklahoma State in their second game of the season. Moore scored the final seven points for OU in the win. The upset was Oakland's 12th career win over a Power 5 program.

BACK FOR ANOTHER RUN
Kampe enters his 38th season at the helm of the Oakland men's basketball program. He is the third-longest tenured active coach in Division I, only behind Jim Boeheim (Syracuse, 45 seasons) and Mike Krzyzewski (Duke, 41 seasons). Kampe's 650 career wins rank 12th among active Division I coaches.

PUTTING OAKLAND ON THE MAP
Kampe joined Oakland in 1984 after six seasons as an assistant coach at Toledo (1978-1984). Formerly known as the Pioneers, OU had only six winning seasons in 16 years of competition before his arrival.
