TOLEDO, Ohio – In their third trip to the State of Ohio this month, the Oakland Golden Grizzlies were bested by the Toledo Rockets, 74-44, on Wednesday, December 21 at John F. Savage Arena.
Putting an end to their three-game win streak, Oakland is now 6-5 (1-1 Horizon League).
A member of the Mid-American Conference (MAC), Toledo improves to 9-2 and has yet to begin league play.
Sophomore
Miriam Ibezim led the Golden Grizzlies with nine points and eight rebounds, with classmate
Aaliyah McQueen pitching in a season-high eight, including two 3-pointers.
Junior Khera Goss tallied a game-high 13 points for the Rockets and was joined in double figures by senior Quinesha Lockett and fellow junior Sammi Mikonowicz, who ended up with 10 and 12, respectively. Senior Sophia Wiard, the all-time leading scorer at Oakridge (Muskegon) High School, only had two Wednesday, but did register 11 rebounds.
This was a 29-23 game with 4:50 remaining in the second quarter, but the Rockets closed on a 7-0 run to up their halftime cushion to 13.
For the game, Oakland shot 25.4 percent (17-67) and 20 percent (5-25) from 3-point range.
Toledo pulled down 54 rebounds to Oakland's 39 and recorded 13 more assists, but the Golden Grizzlies did tally more blocked shots and steals.

Oakland's student-athletes will be able to celebrate the Christmas and Holiday Season with their families and friends, as the Golden Grizzlies do not play again until Thursday, December 29 when they head to the Kress Events Center to square off with the Green Bay Phoenix (8-3, 1-1) in their third Horizon League contest of the season at 8 p.m.
