Mastodons Edge Golden Grizzlies in Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – On Friday afternoon in Fort Wayne, Oakland University Volleyball suffered a 3-1 setback to Purdue Fort Wayne in #HLVB play.

Jessica Riedl would waste no time getting on the board early in the first set followed by two-straight errors by the home Mastodons. It wasn't until a 4-0 run immediately afterward that started to heat the frame in a set of what were runs after runs from both teams. A kill by Libby Gentile sparked two-straight PFW errors once more to tie things up at 12-12.

Purdue Fort Wayne would get four straight before Patti Cesarini would put an end to the run, helping the team to reach the 20-point mark first with the aid of three-straight home team errors once again before the redshirt sophomore would get the set point and win the frame 25-23.

Oakland would find itself down 13-10 in the second set before Avolyn Lepo and Clarke Adams put up three kills on the scoreboard to knot things up once again as PFW ran off to a 6-2 run as both Lepo and Adams would sprinkle in OU scores in that stint. The final stages of the set would prove to be all Mastodons as the home team would get the win 25-21.

The final two sets, saw finishes by the same score of 25-21 in favor of the home team as Cesarini, Adams, and Riedl all reached double-digit kills with 12, 11, and 11, respectively, to try and dig in to every Mastodon lead.

In the end, it was PFW who would emerge from the Friday night #HLVB contest victorious at 3-1.
