Panthers Take 3-0 Game Over Oakland in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – On Sunday, Oakland University Volleyball suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of the Milwaukee Panthers in #HLVB play.

Both teams would exchange shots early on as Jessica Riedl's service ace would waste no time getting Oakland on the board. Kills by Anna Nie and Patti Cesarini would give Oakland a two-point edge as the first frame would stretch on to the middle of the set where the Panthers would claw back.

Milwaukee would throw in a 7-1 run broken up by a Libby Gentile kill as the Panthers would be the first to 20 points in the set. Riedl, Cesarini, and an attacking error by Milwaukee would allow the Golden Grizzlies to work their way back in but would be shut out as MKE would win the first 25-23.

Oakland would come out of the gate firing in the second down a set behind Madison Ross as the Golden Grizzlies would stay a step ahead for a short period of time. A four-point run from Milwaukee would bring the home black and gold back in though OU would respond with kills from Cesarini.

With the game at 22-20 in the second set, Riedl would throw in a kill followed up by Kennedy Dolmage's service ace would knot things up at 22 all as Cesarini would lift the Golden Grizzlies back in the lead. Unfortunately, it was Milwaukee who would put two-straight on the board to take set two 25-23.

In the third set, it was the Panthers who would run away with the game as Oakland would split the Wisconsin road trip part of the conference schedule.

"Milwaukee was the better team tonight. In sets one and two, we executed getting them out of system with our service pressure but needed to capitalize with our quality of defensive contacts and counter-attack terminability," said Head Coach Krista Rice, "We will get back to work next week to improve our consistency of play and prepare for two home matches."

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Cesarini finished with 13 kills to lead Oakland, Nie had six and Adams had five
  • Riedl was in on four blocks to lead the team once again
  • AnnaBelle wrapped up the weekend with 18 assists

OU will be back in Rochester on Friday, October 14 at 6:00 p.m. against IUPUI in the annual Dig for a Cure game.
