Offense Thrives in 3-1 Win over IUPUI

ROCHESTER, Mich. – On Dig for a Cure night in the Athletics Center O'rena on Friday, Oakland University Volleyball downed the IUPUI Jaguars 3-1 in four sets in an electric atmosphere.

With both teams at a 3-4 record in #HLVB play, the Jaguars and Golden Grizzlies came out chomping at the bit with back-and-forth point exchanges early in the first set before IUPUI posted a 5-0 run only to be answered by Oakland's 6-0 streak behind five-straight errors from the visitors and Patti Cesarini's kill.

The home black and gold would be able to get a slight buffer in between IUPUI with Jessica Riedl and Madison Ross getting in on the action as Cesarini's final kill in the first would secure the set one win at 25-19.

In the longest set the Golden Grizzlies have played all season, Oakland held on to a 22-16 lead over the Jaguars before the visitors would claw back, knotting things up at 24-24 just as Oakland was clutching a hold of set point. It would take 31 points for Oakland to finally put away the Jags and the 2-0 set lead.

Coming off an emotional set two win, IUPUI would secure the third set after the Golden Grizzlies tied up the match at 22-22 before a 3-1 streak by the Jaguars, broken up by Clarke Adam's kill, would seal the deal and put the game at 2-1 heading into the final frame.

Oakland would start out better in the fourth as Cesarini and Libby Gentile would get on the board early, helping the team hold an edge as Kennedy Dolmage nailed two-straight service aces to force an IUPUI timeout in the middle of the set. OU's 8-0 run with Ross, Cesarini, and errors by IUPUI would suffocate any chance the Jaguars would have to come back as Oakland would win 25-20.
