GOLDEN GRIZZLIES HANDLE MILWAUKEE FOR FIFTH HORIZON LEAGUE WIN

ROCHESTER, Mich.Trey Townsend's jumper as shot clock time expired opened things up for Oakland University Men's Basketball Sunday afternoon as the Golden Grizzlies handled University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee 86-65 win at the Athletics Center O'rena.

Both teams were knotted up early as a key turnover by Milwaukee (5-11, 3-4 Horizon League) raised the OU (11-5, 5-0 Horizon League) crowd to its feet coming off a Jalen Moore steal that set up the shallow Chris Conway jumper which forced a Panthers timeout at 16:17.

Conway then hit another jumper from the free throw line with 15:16 to go in the half that set up more points for Moore and Townsend. With seven points early on, Moore's three pointer forced another timeout by the visiting bench.

With the lead at 12 for Oakland, Moore crossed the double digit threshold with 11 points with two good free throws that shepherded way to the media timeout as the Golden Grizzlies shot 64.3% (9-14) from the field as the halfway point of the frame approached.

As the game ticked under eight minutes to go in the half, Jamal Cain's authoritative dunk from Moore sent the crowd to its feet which allowed for Townsend to slam one home of his own followed by Blake Lampman's three-pointer to put Oakland up 41-26 with 6:03 to go.

Oakland stalled on offense for over three minutes until Cain drained a jumper from Moore to put the junior at 10 assists for his seventh double double of the year.

At the half, OU shot 54.5% (18-33) from the field while also going 85.7% (6-7) from the charity stripe to complement a 35.7% (5-14) three-point shooting percentage. Milwaukee outrebounded OU at the half 16-12 but the Golden Grizzlies held a 9-3 edge in steals for 14 points off those turnovers by the Panthers.

Moore had 12 points and 10 assists after the first 20 minutes as Townsend was just behind with nine while Lampman held eight. Cain completed the frame with more steals than rebounds with three and two, respectively.

A Cain layup underneath the basket from Lampman started the second, as Parrish drained a triple to put Oakland up 52-34 with just over 18 minutes to go. Three Golden Grizzlies entered double digits as Parrish overtook scoring for Oakland 14 points as Moore and Lampman trailed with 12 and 11, respectively, with 14:13 remaining.

Cain's flushed jumper from just outside the paint gave Oakland the 21 point lead at 66-45 with 10:44 to go as the Golden Grizzlies continued to pile on points behind a Cain-Moore alley oop dunk connection as OU extended its led to 79-52 with the game counting down below five minutes remaining.

As Emmanuel Newsome's bounce pass to Conway resulted in a spinning jumper by the Naperville, Illinois native, Oakland held a 20-point edge just as the game went under one minute to go and the final LED lights went off as Brody Parker drained a triple for a 86-65 win.

Parrish tied a career high in points with 19, which he also hit against Michigan State. The Detroit freshman also grabbed five rebounds, two steals, and a block. Townsend was right behind with his seventh double double of the season with 15 points and 14 assists with three steals.

Townsend and Cain also recorded 15 points as Townsend held a team high six rebounds while Cain recorded three rebounds, four steals, and a block.

The team shot 48.3% (29-60) from the field whilst going 79.2% (19-24) from the free throw line. Defensively, the Golden Grizzlies recorded 12 steals for 21 points off of turnovers to Milwaukee's four.

A road Horizon League contest is on the docket for Oakland as it'll do battle with Cleveland State University in Cleveland, Ohio for a 7:00 p.m. tip.
