ROCHESTER, Mich. — The Black Team finished on top, 2-1, over the Gold Team in the 15th annual Black and Gold intrasquad scrimmage at the Athletics Center O'rena.
Redshirt freshman
Patti Cesarini impressed with 13 kills and five digs over three sets on the winning Black squad. The offensive output was balanced for the Black Team, as six players finished with three-plus kills. Junior setter
Madison Ross tallied 21 assists, six digs, and four blocks, while redshirt freshman
Kennedy Dolmage contributed with 18 digs and five assists. Senior
Sydney Mann made an impact on defense as well with 16 digs. Redshirt freshman
Anna Nie played two of her three total sets on the Black Team, where she had four service aces, three kills, and two blocks. On the day, Nie posted 12 kills, four blocks, and four aces.
Junior setter
AnnaBelle Tomei led the way for the Gold Team with 33 assists, 14 digs, and five aces. Fifth-year senior
Lindsay Wightman paced the Gold defense with a match-high 21 digs to go along with three assists. Another fifth-year standout in
Jamie Walling played on both teams in the scrimmage but did the majority of her damage with Gold, as she totaled 15 kills at a .361 hitting clip and added five blocks in two sets. Overall, Walling finished with 20 kills, six blocks, and three digs.
The Golden Grizzlies will return to action with a home exhibition match versus Ferris State on August 21 (Saturday) at 2 p.m.
