Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

OAKLAND WINS 86-81 OVER RMU TO SPLIT SERIES

Final

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa.
— The Oakland men's basketball program bounced back from last night's heartbreaker to defeat the Robert Morris Colonials, 86-81, Saturday night inside the UPMC Events Center.

Williams knocked down seven 3-pointers en route to a game-high 23 points to lead the Golden Grizzlies (9-16, 9-9 HL). Micah Parrish matched a career-high with 18 points on 3-of-4 shooting and an 11-of-15 mark from the free throw line. The freshman added seven rebounds, four steals, and two assists. Daniel Oladapo chipped in with 19 points, seven rebounds, and two steals coming off his 20-20 performance a day ago, while Trey Townsend finished just shy of a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.

Townsend pulled down four offensive rebounds to lead the OU offense which grabbed 14 boards and turned them into 16 second-chance points.

Oakland forced 16 RMU (4-12, 3-10 HL) turnovers while committing 15 themselves in Saturday's rematch. The Golden Grizzlies turned those takeaways into 22 points on the other end of the floor. Parrish, Williams, and Oladapo each contributed with two or more steals.

After jumping out to a 21-15 advantage, Oakland went on a 9-0 run with 11:01 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Zion Young, to increase its lead to 30-15. RMU responded with a 15-3 run to bring the game within seven points, 42-35, with a minute left in the period. However, Oakland closed the half on a 4-0 run to enter the break with a 46-35 advantage.

The Colonials made a second-half charge, closing their deficit to five points, 71-66, with 4:37 to go in the contest. The Golden Grizzlies responded with a 5-0 run, finished off by Williams' three, to grow their lead to 76-66 with 3:06 remaining. A dunk by Oladapo pushed OU's advantage to 84-71 at the 1:35 mark, a margin too high to overcome for RMU, as Oakland held on for the 86-81 victory.

The Golden Grizzlies capitalized on nine Colonial turnovers in the period, collecting 11 points off those turnovers.

Oakland will close the regular season next weekend at Milwaukee (Feb. 19-20). OU's seeding in the Horizon League Basketball Championships will be revealed following the series. OU will play on Thursday, Feb. 25 if seeded fifth through 12th. They will receive a bye to the quarterfinals to host the winners of the first round if seeded in the top-four.
