HALL OF HONOR: 2004-05 MEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM

ROCHESTER, Mich.
— Oakland's 2004-05 men's basketball team has been named to the Hollie L. Lepley Hall of Honor class of 2022.

Under the direction of legendary head coach Greg Kampe, Oakland finished the regular season 13-19 overall and 7-9 in conference play. As the No. 7 seed in the Mid-Continent Tournament, Oakland knocked off No. 2 seed Kansas City and No. 6 seed Chicago State to clinch a trip to the Mid-Continent Tournament title game. Pierre Dukes hit a three-point shot from the corner with 1.3 seconds left to lift the Golden Grizzlies to an upset 61-60 win over top-seeded Oral Roberts in the tournament championship game.

The feat marked the first time in the Division I era that OU earned a trip to the NCAA Tournament. Rawle Marshall was named Mid-Con Tournament MVP, while Cortney Scott captured a spot on the All-Tournament Team.

OU went on to defeat Alabama A&M 79-69 in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament before falling to No. 1 seed North Carolina 96-68 in the next game.

Marshall finished the season with top-10 program marks in free throw makes (177), free throws attempts (242), and blocks (40). His impressive play led to participating in the 17th annual Mountain Dew Slam Dunk Contest at Washington University in St. Louis, Mo. He then began his professional career, signing an NBA contract with the Dallas Mavericks.

Following the season, Oakland made a trip to the state Capitol in Lansing to be honored by the Michigan Legislature for its Mid-Continent Conference championship title and its first-ever appearance in the Division I NCAA Tournament. A formal recognition statement, which Gov. Jennifer Granholm signed, was read aloud before the state Legislature and presented to the Grizzlies, coaches and athletics staff who made the trip to Lansing.

This year's induction ceremony will be held at the Auburn Hills Marriott Pontiac on February 12, 2022. There will be a cocktail hour at 6:00 p.m. followed by a strolling reception and award ceremony at 7:00 p.m.

Tickets may be purchased for $75.00 per person: Includes 1 ticket to ceremony and 1 ticket to the game. Click here to register.
