
ESTERO, Fla. —The Oakland men's basketball team won the Gulf Coast Showcase title game over Delaware, 81-73, on Wednesday night at Hertz Arena.Â

Jamal Cain earned tournament MVP honors while junior point guard
Jalen Moore was voted to the all-tournament team.Â
Cain was in control against the Fightin' Blue Hens, as he posted a game-high 28 points on 10-of-12 shooting and added nine rebounds, three steals, and one block. Moore enjoyed an all-around game with 16 points, nine assists, six rebounds, and three steals. Second-year freshman

Zion Young scored 12 points apiece with shooting percentages above 50-percent, while freshman
Osei Price had a career-high seven points.Â
Oakland shot a season-high 27 free throws in the non-conference contest, converting on 23 attempts. The Golden Grizzlies were 51% (25-of-49) from the field and made a season-best eight 3-pointers on 24 tries.Â
Both teams gave the ball away 15 times, but OU outscored Delaware 18-10 in points off turnovers.Â
The Golden Grizzlies held the advantage for almost the game's entirety, as the Blue Hens never led and trailed for 39:17 minutes. Oakland secured a 17-7 lead at the 13:17 minute mark of the first half following two free throw makes by Cain. Moore caught fire early by scoring OU's first nine points in the matchup.Â
Delaware made five-straight field goals to minimize its deficit to 26-23 with 7:13 remaining in the period, but the Golden Grizzlies outscored the Blue Hens 18-10 in the closing minutes to head into the break in front 44-33.Â
A jumper by Cain widened Oakland's advantage to 52-37 at the 17:03 minute mark of the second half. However, the Blue Hens did not go away, using a 7-0 run to reduce their OU's lead to 56-51 with 12:04 left. The Golden Grizzlies answered back with a 12-4 scoring spurt, highlighted by a 3-pointer from Young, to get ahead 68-55 at the 6:12 minute mark.Â
Oakland led by eight or more points for the remainder of the game to clinch a third-straight victory and tournament title.Â
OU will return to action on Thursday, Dec. 2, at UIC. The game marks the beginning of Horizon League play for the Golden Grizzlies. Â
