
DAYTON — The Oakland University volleyball program concluded its road swing with a three-set loss at Wright State (11-25, 11-25, 17-25) on Saturday afternoon at the C.J. McLin Gymnasium.
The Golden Grizzlies (12-9, 6-4 HL) were held to season-low marks in kills (17), hitting percentage (-.025), assists (14), and service aces (0) against defending Horizon League champion WSU.
Fifth-year senior
Lindsay Wightman paced OU with a team-leading 21 digs and added three assists. Junior setter Annabelle Tomei had 10 digs to round out Golden Grizzlies with double-figures in the category. Senior
Jessica Riedl totaled a match-high five blocks, while graduate senior
Jamie Walling was close behind her four of her own. The trio of redshirt freshman
Patti Cesarini, Walling, and Riedl led the offense with four-plus kills apiece.
In the opening set, OU trailed 13-8 to remain within striking distance. However, the Raiders went on a 9-1 run to extend their lead to 22-9. The finishing result was a 25-11 set victory for WSU.
Oakland got within one, 8-7, following a kill by senior
Brittany Welch in the second set. Wright State held the Golden Grizzlies to four points for the remainder of the set to earn another 25-11 victory.
WSU clinched the conference contest with a 25-17 victory in set three.
The Golden Grizzlies will return to play at the Athletics Center O'rena on Saturday, Oct. 23, against Robert Morris. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
