Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Moore's triple-double leads Oakland past Detroit Mercy, 86-81

ROCHESTER, Mich. — Jalen Moore went off for a triple-double with 18 points, 14 assists, and 11 rebounds to lead the Oakland men's basketball team past the Detroit Mercy Titans, 86-81, on Friday evening inside the Athletics Center O'rena.

The Golden Grizzlies (6-12, 6-5 HL) had three players score in double figures, led by Zion Young, who had 28 points on perfect 9-of-9 shooting from 3-point territory in just 22 minutes. The shooting mark was the most-consecutive 3-pointers made without a miss in program history. Myke Thom previously broke the record in 1998 with seven-consecutive makes. Moore tacked on Oakland's first triple-double in nearly five years while Daniel Oladapo helped out with 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting and five rebounds. Kay Felder was the last Golden Grizzly to record a triple-double, which came on March 29, 2016, against ETSU.

The Oakland offense was impressive from downtown, pouring in 15 threes on 28 attempts for its best 3-point percentage (.536) of the season. OU added its second-most assists of the season with 24. Kevin Kangu and Micah Parrish each dished out three assists in the win.

After jumping out to a 15-7 advantage, Oakland went on a 13-0 run with 12:27 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Young, to increase its lead to 28-7. The Golden Grizzlies then added four points to the lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 48-23 advantage. Oakland relied on its 3-point shooting in the period, knocking down nine shots to account for 27 of its 48 points.

Detroit Mercy (3-8, 2-5 HL) stormed back in the second half, outscoring OU 58-38 in the period. The Titans got within one point with 18 seconds remaining, but Oakland closed the game with four unanswered points. Antoine Davis led the comeback charge for Detroit with a game-high 30 points.

The Golden Grizzlies return to the O'rena tomorrow at 3 p.m. for their final in-season matchup against the Titans. The game will air on ESPN+ and TV20 Detroit.
