UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - After 320 days off due to Covid-19 the Oakland Track and Field teams opened up the 2021 indoor season at SVSU Classic on Friday. Maddi Leigh won the mile with a time of 5:09.55. Megan Nichols placed first in the 5000m run with a time of 17:46.59 while Connor Goetz placed first in the 5000m run (14:51.39), followed by Chandler Lorf in second (5:14.23).

In the field events, the women racked up many of the highlights. Paige Sanders placed first in the long jump with a distance of 16 ft., 2.25 in., followed by Robin Lefevere (15 ft., 11.5 in.) in second.

Megan Kusler also tied for first in the pole vault (10ft., 8.75 in.) while Alexis Hunter placed first in the triple jump (35 ft., 11.5 in.). Hannah Hall placed second in the high jump with a height of 5 ft., 2.5 in.

Other men's finishes included T.J. Brooks Jr. who placed third in the mile (4:19.63) and Kyle Piotrovsky who placed third in the shot put with a distance of 46 ft., 1.5 in.

The Golden Grizzlies will continue the indoor season on Saturday, Jan. 23 at the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodon Opener beginning at 11 a.m.
