Golden Grizzlies Invite Concludes with Several Top Marks

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Golden Grizzlies turned in a strong all-around performance this weekend as they hosted the Golden Grizzlies Invite, highlighted by multiple event wins, podium finishes, and a nationally notable mark on their home track.

FRIDAY, APR. 3

Oakland opened the meet with solid showings in the pole vault events. On the men's side, Simon Griemert earned a second-place finish with a clearance of 3.97 meters. The women's pole vault group dominated the podium, led by Victoria Sanders, who claimed first place (3.33m), while Allison Shelton finished second (3.18m) and Genna Golab took third (3.18m).

SATURDAY, APR. 4

The Golden Grizzlies continued their momentum into Saturday with standout performances across both field and track events.

Field Events
Oakland's throws group delivered an impressive showing, led by Jamie Giese, who swept both the women's discus (39.10m) and shot put (12.51m). She also added a runner-up finish in the hammer throw (49.32m). Desteny DeJarnett placed third in both the discus (36.50m) and shot put (11.12m), while adding a seventh-place finish in the hammer (39.43m). Jada Ewell contributed in all three events, placing 10th in discus (32.78m) and recording marks in the shot put (8.62m) and hammer (32.24m). Elizabeth Rice highlighted the hammer throw with a first-place finish (51.42m) and also competed in the shot put (9.78m).

In the women's javelin, Kylei Anderson secured a fourth-place finish with a throw of 31.52 meters.

On the men's side, Blake Foster led the way with a dominant performance, winning both the discus (39.94m) and hammer throw (53.14m), while finishing second in the shot put (14.75m). Conner Cherney placed third in the discus (38.16m) and competed in the shot put (11.02m), hammer (36.65m), and javelin, where he finished ninth (38.97m).

In the horizontal jumps, Xavier Davis took second in the long jump (6.91m), followed by Evan Bryan in fourth (6.61m).

Track Events
The distance squad set the tone on the track, beginning with a dominant performance in the women's 5,000 meters. Courtney Bovair led a 1-2-3 finish for Oakland, winning the event in 17:38.63, followed by Makenna Scott (18:02.03) and Ellie Voetberg (18:07.74). Ava Alicandro added a fourth-place finish (18:13.66), while Amy Rowan placed sixth (18:37.21).

Additional finishes came from Genevive Kushner Lopez (18:51.51), Addison Johnson (19:16.63), and Miriam Murrell (19:34.43).

In the women's 800 meters, Hanna Fisher placed third (2:16.99), with Abigail Rice finishing fifth (2:22.15) and Lauren Walker taking 10th (2:25.14).

Lauren Goodman had a standout sprint day, winning both the 100m (11.90) and 200m (24.82), while Emma Nicholson added a sixth-place finish in the 200m (25.68).
Kylei Anderson continued her strong meet by winning the 100m hurdles (13.91), while Natalia Bohn placed fifth (14.96) and later added a third-place finish in the 400m hurdles (1:06.45).

In the women's 3,000m steeplechase, Anne May secured a third-place finish (11:19.84).

The 400m saw Olivia Reynolds (59.06) and A'Naia Herd (59.56) finish sixth and eighth, respectively.

Oakland's depth was on full display in the women's 1500 meters, where Eliza Bush led the way with a first-place finish (4:40.46), followed by Haleigh Bissett in second (4:43.43) and Grace Wessel in third (4:45.94). Maggie Hall (7th), Madeline Richman (8th), Mackenzie Lemke (9th), Sophy Skeels (11th), and Abigail Rice (14th) rounded out a strong showing.
On the men's side, Ethan Sandula placed third in the 5,000 meters (15:03.23), with Colin Farmer finishing sixth (15:13.65). Mitchell Clark (16:00.62) and Tristan Brandenburg (16:10.15) also competed.

The men's 800 meters was a highlight event for Oakland, as Tyler Donovan claimed the win (1:53.53), followed closely by Pierce Grzymkowski in second (1:53.98). Josh Cundy (5th) and Bryce Nowik (8th) added depth to the event.

Evan Bryan contributed in the sprints, finishing fourth in the 100m (10.77) and seventh in the 200m (23.20).

In the hurdles, Austin Graham placed third in the 110m hurdles (15.46), while Ja-Van Poole delivered one of the top performances of the meet, winning the 400m hurdles in 52.19—marking a top-75 time nationally.

Justice Stewart added a third-place finish in the 400m (49.17).

The men's 1500 meters featured a strong pack of Golden Grizzlies, led by Wesley Hollowell in second place (3:57.39). Josiah Magley (4th), Carter McCalister (5th), and Colin McLaughlin (7th) all finished near the top, while Mamdouh Abukaram (8th) delivered one of the most exciting moments of the day with a come-from-behind victory in his heat over the final 60 meters. Jaxson Nowik and Lucas Kuhn also competed, finishing in 4:10.48 and 4:15.90, respectively.

Oakland showcased its depth and talent across all event groups, combining dominant victories, podium sweeps, and standout individual performances in a successful weekend on its home track. Their next chance to keep their momentum going is on Apr. 10-11 where they will travel to Central Michigan and Tennessee University.
