ROCHESTER, Michigan - The Oakland University women's golf team is set to kickoff its spring slate with the Motor City Cup in at Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida, from Sunday, February 9 through Monday, February 10.

The Golden Grizzlies have claimed the last two Motor City Cups. The tournament is contested in match play format. A year ago, it was Sydney Martens' victories on day two that propelled Oakland past Loyola Chicago and Youngstown State.

This year's edition features five Horizon League foes. Seven contenders from a season ago return to battle for the cup with Detroit Mercy rounding out the field of eight.

Oakland's top effort of the fall came at the Shirley Spork Invitational at Eagle Crest Golf Club in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Junior Amalia Shahzan paced the Golden Grizzlies, finishing in sixth with a score of 221 (+5). The transfer from Cincinnati registered a final round of 77 (+5). Freshman Kay Zubkus recorded a 75 (+3) in her final 18 holes and finished tied for 10th place with a score of 225 (+9). Oakland placed runner-up as a team with a three-round score of 903 (+39), its third-best 54-hole score in program history.

Through four tournaments this fall, Zubkus leads the team with an average tally of 76.64. Zubkus' fall was highlighted by a first-place finish at the Golden Grizzlies Invitational from September 16-17 - where she shot a season-low opening round 70.
