
CINCINNATI - Tyler Trovinger hit 2-for-2 with a double and a walk while
Austin Higgins and
Michael Stygles each recorded a hit as Oakland opened the weekend series at Cincinnati with a 18-1 setback in seven innings on Friday at Marge Schott Stadium.
Walks proved the be a major factor as Oakland (2-5) had 17 through four of the seven total innings. Cincinnati (1-6) capitalized scoring two runs in the first inning, four in the second and third innings and tacked on eight in the fifth.
In the second inning, Stygles and Higgins each reached with a pair of singles.
Jordan Jackson laced a shot right at the second baseman who made the catch and doubled off Stygles at first base. Oakland also had a bases loaded opportunity in the third inning with two outs but a runner was picked off at first base to end the threat.
Game two of the four-game set is on Saturday, Feb. 29 at 1 p.m.
