
CLEVELAND - For the second time this season,
Kayla Luchenbach matched a season-high with 17 points just missing her career-high by one point along with grabbing seven rebounds while
Kahlaijah Dean and
Alona Blackwell each added nine points as Oakland fell 83-64 at Cleveland State on Friday night at the Wolstein Center.
Chloe Guingrich and
Jalisha Terry also chipped in with eight points each.
Defensively, Oakland (10-16, 5-10 HL) posted a season-high six blocked shots with
Breanne Beatty and
Brianna Breedy each recording a career-high two blocks.
The Golden Grizzlies put forth a solid offensive effort in the first half going 15-for-32 (46.9%) but still trailed by 14 points, 46-32, at the half as Cleveland State (18-8, 8-7 HL) shot a blistering 5-for-9 (55.6) from 3-point range and went a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line while the Golden Grizzlies did not have an attempt from the charity stripe.
In the second half, Oakland could not close the gap due to the offense cooling down only shooting 28.6 percent while CSU's offense heated up shooting 45.2 percent. For the game, the Golden Grizzlies also had trouble defending the post as the Vikings scored 50 points in the paint while grabbing 54 total rebounds with 22 offensive rebounds that led to 15 second chance points.
Oakland travels to Youngstown state on Sunday, Feb. 23 at 1 p.m.
