
AKRON, Ohio - Mario Camilletti hit a combined 4-for-9 with a double, triple, four runs scored while
Blake Griffith went 3-for-5 with two doubles and a run to lead Oakland to a pair of 4-3 (14 innings) and 1-0 (six innings) wins to earn a season opening doubleheader sweep at Akron on Sunday.
Tyler Trovinger drove in the winning run in the 14th inning of game one off a sacrifice fly while
Cam Post delivered a pinch hit RBI single in the top of the sixth inning in game two which was shortened due to darkness.
On the mound,
Beau Keathley racked up 10 strikeouts in 7.0 innings of work in the no decision effort in game one while
Nick Rutkowski tossed 5.0 scoreless innings in relief allowing only two hits with six strikeouts to pick up his first collegiate win.
Cooper Dundas also picked up the win with three strikeouts in relief of
Brandon Deans who went 4.2 innings with five strikeouts in his collegiate debut.
Ian Cleary,
Cam Post and
Drew Demumbrum also each recorded at hit in the first game. Oakland took a 1-0 lead in the first inning off a RBI single by Demumbrum. After Akron moved ahead 2-1 in the third,
Michael Chialdikas drew a bases loaded walk tying the game at 2-2.
The Golden Grizzlies moved ahead 3-2 in the seventh as Camilletti scored on a wild pitch. After Akron tied the game in the eight inning, Trovinger drove in Camilletti in the top of the 14th to seal the win.
In game two,
Michael Stygles led the way going 2-for-3 while Demumbrum, Post, Camilletti and
Bobby Cavin each posted hits. The game remained scoreless until the top of the sixth inning when Post delivered his clutch pinch hit RBI single to score Camilletti with two outs. Dundas was then able to close the door on the Zips in the bottom of the frame striking out three of the final four batters.
Oakland travels to No. 8 Auburn for a single game on Wednesday, Feb. 19th at 5 p.m.
