
DAYTON, Ohio - Kahlaijah Dean scored a team-high 17 points while
Alona Blackwell and
Chloe Guingrich each added eight points as Oakland suffered their first Horizon League setback of the season to Wright State, 74-49, on Sunday afternoon.
Breanne Beatty had five points with
Jalisha Terry,
Lamariyee Williams, and
Sydney Gouard each chipping in with two points.
Autumn Kissman grabbed a team-high eight rebounds
After a slow start in the first quarter, Dean hit a buzzer-beater 3-pointer to cap off 15-7 run to end the first quarter pulling Oakland (3-3, 3-1 HL) within one point, 18-17.
However, the second quarter proved the be the Golden Grizzlies' undoing as Wright State (3-3, 3-1 HL) outscored Oakland 14-2 to take a 32-19 lead in the locker room.
Oakland tried to chip away at the WSU lead in the second half but could not get over the hump. After shooting 8-for-18 (44%) from 3-point range on Saturday, Oakland only went 3-for-20 (15%) and 31.6% from the field. WSU also held a 21-8 second-chance points advantage with 15 points off turnovers which also proved to be the difference.
Oakland travels to East Lansing, Mich. for a non-conference game at Michigan State on Tues., Dec. 22 at 12 p.m.
