WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – For the fifth time this season,
Jalen Moore led the Golden Grizzlies in scoring, recording 14 points as the Oakland men's basketball team fell to Purdue, 93-50 Tuesday afternoon from the Mackey Center.
Moore was the lone Golden Grizzly to tally double-digits, adding seven assists, four steals and three rebounds.
Purdue (2-1) was hot offensively shooting 55 percent from the floor (33-60) and 53 percent (17-32) from 3-point range. It marks the second time this season an opponent has totaled 15-plus triples as Toledo recorded 16 on Nov. 26.
A 3-pointer from
Zion Young gave the Golden Grizzlies a 17-16 lead midway through the first half, but the Boilermakers jumped out to an 11-0 run that was halted by a triple from
Yusuf Jihad to put things at 28-20 in Purdue's favor.
In the final eight minutes of the first half Purdue outscored Oakland 21-7, heading into halftime with a 49-27 lead.
The Golden Grizzlies were unable to chip away at the deficit, going just 1-of-10 from downtown and converting on just nine of 28 field goals in the second half.
Oakland (0-5) will take on its third-straight Power-5 opponent at Oklahoma State on Saturday, Dec. 5 at 7:30 p.m. in Stillwater, Okla.
