OAKLAND TAKES DOWN NORTHERN ARIZONA IN HOME OPENER, 3-1

Dellinger, Walling put on an offensive clinic in the four set win

ROCHESTER, Mich. -- Taylor Dellinger recorded a career high 18 kills, hitting .351, plus added three digs and one block as the Oakland volleyball team defeated Northern Arizona in four sets Saturday in its home opener at the O'rena. 

Jamie Walling shined offensively, registering a match high 20 kills, hitting at a .364 clip, plus recorded a career high six service aces. The junior tallied her fifth career match of 20 kills or more and her six service aces are tied for the second-most all-time in a single match in program history.

Jessica Riedl added nine kills with a .438 hitting percentage.

Setters AnnaBelle Tomei (29) and Madison Ross (24) combined for 52 of Oakland's 60 assists on the day.

Defensively, Mackenzie Schneider and Megan Hobler led Oakland with five and four total blocks respectively, while Lindsay Wightman recorded a match high 17 digs. Sydney Mann and Haley Brown added 12 digs each.

Tied at 13-13 in the opening set, Oakland (2-1) went on a 9-0 run as Walling recorded five service aces during that stretch, including three in a row, as the Golden Grizzlies went on to win 25-17. After Northern Arizona (1-2) evened the match up in set two, Oakland responded with a 25-21 win in set three.

In a thrilling fourth set, Oakland found itself down 19-14. Behind the serve of Brown, the Golden Grizzlies went on a 6-0 run to take a 20-19 lead. Moments later, the Lumberjacks responded and regained the lead at 23-20 only for Oakland to mount another comeback to even the match at 24-24. 

Blocks by Hobler and Brittany Welch gave Oakland a 25-24 advantage and Walling sealed the win with her 20th kill the next possession.  

Oakland will hit the road for its next weekend tournament at Bradley, beginning with an 11 a.m. ET match with DePaul on Sept. 6.
