LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Ava Thielman earned the lone Oakland singles point, winning her match 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) as the Oakland tennis team suffered a season-ending loss to Cleveland State 4-2 Saturday night in the Horizon League Championship Semifinal at Schwartz Tennis Center. 

The Golden Grizzlies got on the board first by winning the doubles point as Alexandra Whall and Amanda Nilsson won 7-6 (7-4) and Dasha Artamonova and Sofia Borcuti won 7-5. The Vikings (16-8) responded with three straight singles points then Thielman's win cut the CSU lead to 3-2. Moments later, the Vikings edged out Oakland in the No. 4 singles match to seal the win and advance to the championship tomorrow.

Thielman ends her season on a six-game winning streak in singles play and a 18-5 overall record. Her 18 wins ties for the fourth-most in a season in program history and most since 1996. Oakland finished the season with a a program best 14-9 overall record and 7-2 league record.
