ROCHESTER, Mich. -- Brad Brechting scored a career high 32 points on 14 of 15 shooting as the Oakland men's basketball team topped Cleveland State 83-68 on Saturday inside the O'rena.
Brechting, who made his first 13 shots from the floor, finished with a .933 shooting percentage, the second-highest in a game in school history. The redshirt-junior has scored in double figures in his last four games, averaging 18.5 points in that span.
Xavier Hill-Mais nearly recorded a triple-double with 10 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists. Hill-Mais notched his third career double-double as the Golden Grizzlies (11-13, 7-4 HL) have had a player record a double-double in their last four straight games.
Jaevin Cumberland poured in 20 points, plus added four rebounds and four assists. Cumberland also went 8-for-8 from the free throw line, the 12th time he has gone perfect from the charity stripe this season.
In the first half, Brechting was responsible for 11 of Oakland's 16 made field goals and had 24 points, surpassing his career high of 21 from two days prior.
Oakland shot 59 percent from the floor (29 of 49), its best shooting percentage in league play, and dominated Cleveland State (6-18, 1-10 HL) in points in the paint, outscoring the Vikings 38-18.
The Golden Grizzlies have won eight of the last 10 meetings against CSU as they even the all-time series at 8-8.
Oakland, which earned its 800th all-time win as a program with Saturday's victory, will play its next four games on the road beginning Thursday, Feb. 7 at Wright State.
