ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Jalisha Terry reached double figures for the sixth consecutive game with 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting and 2-for-4 from behind the arc while
Kahlaijah Dean added 11 points on 4-of-9 from the field as Oakland put forth a valiant effort before falling at No. 24 Michigan, 79-64, on Sunday afternoon.
Chloe Guingrich chipped in with eight points while
Autumn Kissman,
Kayla Luchenbach and
Alona Blackwell each added six points. Guingrich and Kissman also grabbed a team-high six rebounds.
Brianna Breedy dished out a team-high five assists with seven points while
Breanne Beatty scored five points.
Oakland jumped out the a quick 5-2 lead off a jumper from Guingrich followed by a 3-pointer by Beatty. The Golden Grizzlies extended the lead to 13-9 after a layup from Kissman. U-M then took its first lead of the game off five straight points from Naz Hillmon. After Dean hit a 3-pointer, Breedy followed with a buzzer-beater 3-ball to pull Oakland within one point at 22-21 to end the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Guingrich connected a jumper followed by a 3-pointer from Terry to keep Oakland close at 26-23. However, U-M responded with a 14-2 run to close out the frame to take a 12-point halftime advantage at 40-28.
Oakland clawed back into the game in the third quarter as Dean accounted for scored six points helping the Golden Grizzlies outscore U-M 13-3 to pull within four points, 54-50, with 2:18 remaining. The Wolverines responded scoring the final eight points to move ahead 62-50.
After Terry hit three straight free throws to open the fourth quarter, U-M went on a 13-2 run over a 2:44 span to take a commanding 75-55 lead and never looked back. Oakland did manage an 8-0 run towards the end of the frame down the stretch.
Oakland concludes its seven-game road swing at St. Bonaventure on Sunday, Dec. 15 at 1 p.m.
