
ST. BONAVENTURE, NY - Kayla Luchenbach posted a career-high 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field and 5-of-6 from the free throw line while
Kahlaijah Dean scored a season-high 19 points off the bench on 8-of-16 shooting and 3-of-6 from 3-point range as Oakland closed out a seven-game road swing with a 80-66 setback at St. Bonaventure on Sunday afternoon.
Brianna Breedy added nine points,
Autumn Kissman chipped in with five points while
Chloe Guingrich and
Breanne Beatty each had four points.
The first half proved to be the difference and Oakland (4-5) fell behind due to poor shooting only going 10-for-30 (33%) from the field and 1-for-8 from 3-point range while being held scoreless over the final 3:52 of the second quarter. Conversely, St. Bonaventure (2-8) was hot from the field shooting a blistering 19-for-28 (68%) and 8-for-11 (73%) from 3-point range to take a 47-21 halftime lead. The Bonnies only scored 36 total points in their previous game against Buffalo.
Oakland's scoreless drought continued into the third quarter to trail by 33 points. The Golden Grizzlies then switched to a full court press and pushed the tempo offensively to cut the St. Bonaventure lead to 21 points heading into the fourth quarter.
Oakland continued to turn up the full court pressure to chip away at the St. Bonaventure lead as Breedy hit a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to 13 points at 67-54 with 5:48 remaining in the fourth. However, the Golden Grizzlies would be not be able to cut into the lead and further down the stretch.
Oakland returns home with a non-conference match against Central Michigan on Wednesday, Dec. 18 at 7 p.m.
