Jalisha Terry reached double figures for the seventh time this season with 15 points and team-high three steals as Oakland upended Detroit Mercy, 71-57, for its fifth consecutive metro series win on Saturday afternoon at Calihan Hall.
Breanne Beatty grabbed a career-high nine rebounds with seven points while
Kayla Luchenbach added nine points and seven rebounds.
Alona Blackwell also chipped in with seven points.
For the game, Oakland (6-6, 1-0 HL) shot a season second-best 48.3 percent from the field, dished out a second-best 21 assists on 29 made baskets and matched a season second-best 44 rebounds. The Golden Grizzlies also held a 42-30 points in the paint advantage over the Titans (0-12, 0-1 HL).
Oakland jumped out to a quick 9-4 lead by the first media timeout with six points from Guingrich and extended the lead to 20-12 to close out the frame.
The Golden Grizzlies open the second quarter on a 7-0 run capped off by a 3-pointer from Terry putting her in double figures with 10 points for a 27-12 lead. UDM responded with a 7-2 spurt cutting the deficit to 10 points at 29-19. Both teams traded brackets back and fourth down the stretch as the Golden Grizzlies held a 36-28 lead heading into the locker room.
Detroit Mercy opened third quarter on a 6-2 run cutting Oakland's lead to four points at 38-34. The Golden Grizzlies answered with a 10-0 run to extend the lead to 14 points, 48-34. A 3-point bucket by Blackwell gave Oakland its biggest lead at 17 points, 55-38, with 1:14 remaining.
Oakland remained in control in the fourth quarter as a pair of Luchenbach lay-ups extended the lead back up to 17 at 69-52 as the Golden Grizzlies cruised to the league opening win.
Oakland rings in the new year with a pair of road league games beginning at IUPUI on Thursday, Jan. 2 at 7 p.m.
