
ROCHESTER, Mich. - Alona Blackwell poured in a career-high 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting and 4-for-7 from 3-point range to lead Oakland to a strong second half en route to a 72-53 win over Lourdes to secure the program's 800th win on Saturday.
Kayla Luchenbach added 14 points going 6-for-12 from the field with six rebounds and two assists while
C'Erra Maholmes posted a career-high seven points with a pair of rebounds.
Breanne Beatty chipped in with eight points while
Brianna Breedy grabbed a career-high four of Oakland's (5-6) 15 steals defensively. For the game, the Golden Grizzlies forced a season-high 26 Lourdes (3-12) turnovers leading to 27 points.
After trailing at the half, 29-28, Oakland came out of the locker room and took control of the game in the third quarter which proved to be the difference. The Golden Grizzlies opened up the frame on an 8-0 run scoring 17 total points while holding the Gray Wolves to only six points and 0-for-6 shooting from the field to take the lead for good at 45-35.Â
Oakland continued the momentum in the fourth quarter catching fire from the field going 8-for-14 (57.1%) and 3-for-4 (75%) from beyond the arc scoring 27 total points to secure the historic win.
Oakland travels to arch-rival Detroit Mercy for a Metro Series showdown on Saturday, Dec. 28 at 12 p.m.Â
