Tray Maddox Jr. led the Golden Grizzlies scoring a team high 15 points as the Oakland men's basketball team fell to Delaware, 56-53 Friday from Silver Spur Arena in the inaugural Sunshine Slam.
Xavier Hill-Mais and
Kevin Kangu added 12 points a piece as Hill-Mais went 6-for-10 from the floor.
Oakland (1-1) scored 32 of its 53 points from inside the paint, and 18 points for Delaware (2-0) miscues.
The Golden Grizzlies went into halftime leading 28-20 and led by as much as 12 early into the second half. The Blue Hens bounced back in the second half, going on a 25-2 run and holding Oakland scoreless for more than eight minutes.
Hill-Mais had an opportunity at the buzzer to convert on a three but it didn't fall, sealing the game for the Blue Hens.
Oakland continues play in the Sunshine Slam tomorrow against UTSA beginning at 5:30 p.m. Saturday's game will be streamed on FloSports.
