ROCHESTER, Mich. -- Brad Brechting recorded his first career double-double with 21 points and 18 rebounds, both career highs, as the Oakland men's basketball team fell to Youngstown State 75-74 Thursday night at the O'rena.

Brechting's 18 rebounds are the most by an Oakland player since 2017 when Isaiah Brock pulled down 18 boards, also against YSU. The Golden Grizzlies have now had a player record a double-double in three consecutive games.

Jaevin Cumberland scored 19 points and grabbed five rebounds while Xavier Hill-Mais added 14 points and pulled down seven rebounds.

Oakland (10-13, 6-4 HL) got off to a hot start, making eight of its first 10 shots from the floor. Despite the Golden Grizzlies shooting 0-for-9 from three-point range in the first half, Oakland led at halftime 36-29. It was the first time this season Oakland did not make a three-pointer in a half.

Oakland shot just under 11 percent (10.7) from three-point range (3 of 28), its lowest percentage since 2009. The Golden Grizzlies dominated in the paint, outscoring the Penguins 44-24.

The Golden Grizzlies missed two chances to tie the game with under a minute to go as YSU (7-16, 3-7 HL) defeated Oakland in Rochester for just the second time in the series' 20-year history.

Oakland will welcome Cleveland State to the O'rena on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 3 p.m.
