
DAYTON, OHIO - LaKyesha Stennis equaled a career-high with 16 points connecting on three 3-pointers while going 3-for-3 from the free throw line with five rebounds as Oakland fell 69-58 in a defensive battle at league-leading Wright State on Friday night.
Taylor Jones added 10 points with four assists while
Chloe Guingrich grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds with seven points.
Mercy Agwaniru also dished out career-high three assists.
Points off turnovers and in the paint proved to be the difference as Oakland (4-15, 1-7 HL) forced Wright State (15-5, 7-1 HL) to 12 turnovers which only accounted for three points. Conversely, WSU recorded 13 points off 19 Oakland turnovers and held a 36-16 points in the paint advantage which the Golden Grizzlies could not overcome. Both teams only shot 19 percent from behind the arc.
Oakland trailed by 10 going into the fourth quarter and saw the Raiders extend their lead to 18 before the Golden Grizzlies battled back closing out the game on a 12-5 run.
After Wright State opened the game on a 11-0 run, Oakland was able to claw its way back by holding WSU to only seven points to rest of the quarter to trail by six points at 17-11.
In the second quarter, the Golden Grizzlies kept it close scoring 15 points compared to 16 from WSU to trail 33-26 going into the locker room at the half.
Oakland travels to Northern Kentucky on Sunday, Jan. 27 at 2 p.m.
