ROCHESTER, Mich. --
James Beck recorded his second career double-double by scoring 11 points and pulling down a career high 13 boards, six of which came on the offensive glass, as the Oakland men's basketball team dropped a tightly contested contest to Milwaukee Thursday night at the O'rena, 67-64.
Jaevin Cumberland scored a game high 19 points and hit five three pointers while
Karmari Newman scored 13 points and matched a career high with five rebounds.
Braden Norris added nine points and seven assists.
Milwaukee (7-10, 2-2 HL) ran out to a 23-8 lead to begin the game, but the Golden Grizzlies fought back and got the Panthers' lead to single digits by halftime, trailing 34-27. Oakland struggled to hit shots all game, shooting a season low 35 percent (20 of 57) from the floor. Oakland did produce on the boards, winning the rebounding battle 36-29 and pulled down a season high 14 offensive rebounds.
Norris hit a three pointer with 2:42 to play that gave Oakland a 63-62 lead, however, Milwaukee answered in its next possession with a three of its own to regain the lead 65-63. With Oakland trailing 65-64, Cumberland missed a three pointer with 19 seconds remaining.
Milwaukee hit a pair of free throws to push their lead to three points and stopped Oakland on its final possession. The Panthers' win snapped Oakland's four-game winning streak in the series.
Oakland (7-11, 3-2 HL) will host Green Bay next for its fourth annual WinterFest game on Saturday, Jan. 12 at 3 p.m.
