ROCHESTER, Mich. -- Karmari Newman scored a career high 33 points on 10 of 13 shooting including going 6-for-8 from three-point range as the Oakland men's basketball team earned a 90-78 win against Green Bay Saturday at the O'rena. Newman's 33 points are the most scored by an Oakland player this season.
Jaevin Cumberland scored 20 points, dished out six assists and went 9-for-10 from the free throw line, while
Xavier Hill-Mais scored 18 points and pulled down nine rebounds.
Despite shooting 59 percent (13 of 22) from the floor in the first half, Oakland found itself trailing at halftime 41-39.
The Golden Grizzlies (8-11, 4-2 HL) used a 19-4 run to take the lead early in the second half and never trailed after regaining the lead 46-45 with 16 minutes to play.
Oakland buckled down defensively and held Green Bay (9-9, 3-2 HL) to just 36 percent (12 of 33) shooting from the floor and 27 percent (3 of 11) from three-point range in the second half and outscored the Phoenix 51-37.
The win tonight marked Oakland's 200th victory inside the O'rena.
The Golden Grizzlies will return to action Jan. 19 to take on in-state rival Detroit Mercy for a Metro Series showdown inside Calihan Hall at 2 p.m.
